Duane E. Pool

Duane E. Pool, born June 18, 1950, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January
4, 2026.
Born and raised in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Duane was the son of Wayne Pool and Carolyn (née Ekleberry)
Pool, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife,
Constance “Connie” (née Emch) Pool, whose love remained a constant presence in his life, as well as his
brother, Glen Pool.
Duane was a graduate of Upper Sandusky High School. Throughout his life, he was known for his steady
presence, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to his family.
Above all else, Duane was a devoted father and an extraordinary grandfather. He was endlessly
supportive, deeply loving, and always ready for an adventure. His eight grandchildren were his greatest
joy and the center of his world. From days spent at Cedar Point and the beach to family trips to Florida,
Duane created lasting memories filled with laughter, patience, and love, always putting his family first.
Duane was a proud and active member of the Erie County Conservation League, where he found great
purpose and fulfillment. He especially loved volunteering as a range officer at league events and was
deeply passionate about supporting Ladies Day and Youth Field Day. Giving his time to educate,
encourage, and support others—particularly young people—brought him genuine joy.
He is lovingly survived by his three children, Nathan (Tracy) Pool, Joel (Ninunya) Pool, and Adriane
(Vincent) DeFiore; and his grandchildren, Madeline Pool, Benjamin Pool, Katelyn Pool, Leonardo Pool,
Morrigan Pool, Giulianna DeFiore, Giovanni DeFiore, and Luciano DeFiore. He is also survived by his
sister, Melinda Krider, and niece, Jacinda. Duane was loved dearly by Kathy Smetzer and her family, all
of whom held a special place in his life.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2026, with a brief memorial
service beginning at 6:00 p.m., at Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
A private family entombment will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in Duane’s memory to the Erie County Conservation
League would be greatly appreciated.
Duane has been welcomed into eternal rest, reunited with those who went before him, and held in the
promise of God’s everlasting love.
